ASSET*AmeriCorps
Active Service Solutions for Economic Transition
United Cerebral Palsy of Texas is excited to be in the planning stages of a new initiative, ASSET*AmeriCorps.
ASSET*AmeriCorps currently operates under a One Star planning grant. Once funded as an operating grant, the program will mobilize a statewide corps of AmeriCorps members to directly serve people with disabilities as they overcome barriers to living independently in their community. Service activities will include: financial literacy training, housing counseling, adaptive technology assistance, and other supports toward independence. Find out more information about AmeriCorps at: www.americorps.gov
We are targeting the following regions to support the ASSET*AmeriCorps program:
- Austin and surrounding counties
- Killeen/Waco area
- Ft. Worth area (including Tarrant, Parker and Johnson counties)
- Dallas County
- Tyler and surrounding counties
- Greater Houston area (including Harris, Ft. Bend and Montgomery counties)
- San Antonio area (Bexar county)
- Corpus Christi and surrounding counties
- El Paso County
UCP Texas currently houses an AmeriCorps*VISTA member, Don Corr, who is actively organizing ASSET*AmeriCorps Outreach meetings in the above nine regions. He is also helping to develop the ASSET curriculum which will be administered by UCP Texas once the ASSET*AmeriCorps project goes into operating mode in Spring 2008.
