Americorps Initiative: Access Housing

United Cerebral Palsy of Texas (UCP Texas) hosts an AmeriCorps*VISTA program entitled Access Housing to address the current housing crisis in Texas for low income people with disabilities. Access Housing aims to place people into affordable, accessible and integrated housing across Texas.

Access Housing is partnering with developers to increase the availability of accessible, affordable and integrated housing in seven Texas communities: Austin, Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston, Corpus Christi, Heart of Central Texas and San Antonio.

The availability of housing and community supports for people with disabilities experiencing a housing crisis is vital to this fit.

In addition to identifying people in the community needing housing and builders that have acceptable property available, the Access Housing program is compiling a database showcasing the very best that Texas has to offer. By bringing together affordability, accessibility and community integration, Access Housing is empowering people so they can live happy and productive lives.

Join the discussion as Ron Cranston, AmeriCorps*VISTA with UCP Texas, presents a question to the presidential candidates in the CNN YouTube debate to draw public awareness of the need of affordable, accessible and integrated housing for low-inconme people with disabilities working in conjuction with Foundation Communities
