Advocacy & Public Policy
UCP Texas is respected at all levels of government as an effective and credible representative on disability matters. We analyze policy issues and develop a legislative agenda for each biennial Texas legislative session. We are active advocates for legislation, funding, and programs and policies that allow people with disabilities more independence, choice and control in their lives - including housing (affordability, accessibility, integration, funding), Medicaid and Home and Community Based Waiver programs, reduction of waiting lists for programs and services, policies that impact personal attendants, assistive technology initiatives, etc.
Through partnerships with UCP and other national organizations, UCP Texas is also active on the national legislative level, providing information and technical assistance to members of Congress and various federal agencies and organizations working on disability issues.
Through UCP Texas advocacy campaigns, people with disabilities and their families and friends can press their representatives to advance disability-related issues such as accessibility, equality and inclusion. Join the Texas Action Center and get involved!
Disability Policy Consortium
UCP Texas is the administering organization for the Disability Policy Consortium (DPC), a group of state and local organizations conducting policy work on issues of concern to people with disabilities. The Texas Council for Developmental Disabilities provides funding for support staff who are housed with UCP Texas and support the DPC.
The Texas Action Center website, a project of the DPC, is a vehicle for online advocacy for people with disabilities and others interested in disability-related policy and legislation.
